Alan Burcombe is a highly regarded and very experienced Solicitor specialising in Criminal Law.

He deals with cases across all stages of the criminal law process, from early investigation advice and representation, negotiations with prosecuting and investigative authorities, through to charge and subsequent trial. Alan is well versed in acting for clients whose cases have attracted significant media attention, both nationally and internationally, including terrorism, multi-million pound frauds with international or cross-border issues, false accounting, fraudulent trading, insider trading prosecutions by the FCA, Health & Safety Executive prosecutions, money launderingproceeds of crime and confiscation, as well as advising and representing well-known figures in the fields of business, media, sport and entertainment.

Having previously worked in the City in a large Commercial Law firm, this has naturally enabled him to offer advice and representation in cases of large-scale fraud, HMRC prosecutions, and all aspects of serious and complex business crime litigation. Additionally, he advises and defends Health and Safety and Education Act matters, as well as advising and representing in other regulatory matters such as professional disciplinary tribunals. He has also presented seminars to offer guidance to corporate bodies on the impact of certain aspects of criminal legislation, such as corporate manslaughter, and has also had articles published on such subjects as Proceeds of Crime proceedings and Appeal issues.

Alan Burcombe is also well known for the work he has conducted in the appellate courts. Such cases have included R v Abdroikof and others, being a House of Lords case which considered the fairness of serving police officers and CPS lawyers sitting on Juries, and Al-Khawaja & Tahery vs United Kingdom in the European Court of Human Rights, which dealt with highly significant issues on the law relating to hearsay evidence and the right to a fair trial.

Alan co-founded Wells Burcombe with David Wells in 2008.
