Alternatives to Court
Mediation is a quicker, easier, cheaper and more amicable way to settle disputes following a separation. It is always preferable for parents to reach an agreement about arrangements concerning children, preventing the need to go to court.
Mediation allows each party to suggest their own solutions, with a third party, known as a mediator, assisting the two parties in the negotiation process to hopefully achieve a mutually acceptable solution. When an agreement is reached a Consent Order is drafted to make any agreement legally binding. Mediation can be considerably more flexible than court proceedings, but if mediation should prove unsuccessful the case can still be taken to court.
Our team of family solicitors can support and advise you through the mediation process as well as draft the Consent Order when an agreement has been reached. If mediation is unsuccessful we can represent parents who are making or responding to applications concerning arrangements for children, often dealing with such issues as contact and residence.
